Gripen has been with her family since she was a kitten, and she has always enjoyed getting involved in household activities, even if she isn’t meant to.
Micaela Strömberg, Gripen’s mother, told The Dodo, “She is a really humorous, inquisitive, and curious youngster.” “She enjoys mischief and has dragged towels and even drapes that I had hung up to dry since she was a kitten.” She eats the food I leave on the counter for later, steals my dishcloth, and toys with my two Dalmatians.”
Gripen has a lot of energy, but the dishwasher is the one thing that makes her calm down.
When Gripen managed to get onto the counter one day, she found that when the dishwasher is turned off and opened, it emits a fog of steam that’s similar to a spa treatment – and the curious cat was instantly hooked. When Gripen hears the dishwasher end a cycle, she dashes over to the counter above it and settles in for her daily steam facial. She’ll even show up early on occasion, just to be safe.
“She rests on the counter a couple times a week when the dishwasher is running,” Strömberg added. “She sits there for nearly 20 minutes,” says the narrator.
Gripen lets the steam wash over her as soon as the dishwasher opens, and her expression tells it all.
Gripen might be a little rambunctious at times, but her dishwashing spa sessions are the one time of day when she is completely calm. It’s a little strange, but it works for her – so why not?
