A feral kitten came around with the help of rescuers and found the perfect shoulders to lean on.
A 7-week-old kitten with extra toes was brought to the Odd Cat Sanctuary in Massachusetts for a chance at a better life. She was found in a dirt hole by a local TNR (trap-neuter-return) rescuer in Douglas, MA.
The rescuer managed to get the torbie (a cross between a tabby and a tortie) out of the hole and into a carrier. Hoping to get the kitten the best chance at a loving home, she got in touch with the Odd Cat Sanctuary.
“The kitten was very spicy and sassy. She would throw down her double paws like she was a fierce lion,” Tara Kay, founder of the Odd Cat Sanctuary, shared with us.
Despite all the hissing and trying to put on a tough exterior, it was all bark and no bite. “About 12 hours later of me working with her, she started to come around,” Tara told us.
“She would purr when I held her and start to snuggle into my neck.”
The kitten whom they named Cookie Dough, got a taste of love and immediately wanted more. Despite being born a feral, she quickly came out of her shell and warmed up to her human friends.
In just one day, she adjusted to life as an indoor cat, and her playful, rambunctious side began to emerge.
Sam, a veterinary student and an ER vet tech, came across a post about the little spitfire and fell head over heels for her. She went to meet the torbie the next day, and it turned out to be the perfect match.
It was love at first sight as Cookie Dough climbed onto Sam’s shoulder and nuzzled into her neck.
“She was instantly so sweet with Sam,” Tara told us. “We agreed she was not meant for life on the streets, and Sam said, ‘She’s a lover, not a fighter,'” Tara told us.
The kitten melted into her new best friend and was so happy to be held and carried around in her arms.
The former feral kitty has blossomed into a full-fledged love-bug and a little dynamo.
She’s grown so much in size and mischief in just a few days. She puts her unbridled energy to good use by jumping and scampering around the house like she owns it.
“Cookie Dough has all settled into her new home. She loves to be held, snuggle and play nonstop,” Tara added.
The kitten is never far from Sam, following her around the house, sitting on her lap or being curled up next to her, purring up a storm.
She will lie down on her mom’s shirt before Sam has a chance to wear it, or play with toilet paper in the bathroom when Sam isn’t looking.
“I absolutely love her. You wouldn’t believe that she was a feral kitten,” Sam shared.
The little polydactyl is thriving in her forever home. She loves her life as a spoiled princess and is living each day to the fullest.
