A litter of four kittens was brought to a San Jose animal shelter earlier this year. Everyone required a break.
Laura Mallone, the head of the animal rights group Mini Cat Town, found these kittens. The woman looked after them and temporarily took on the role of their mother.
Tanuki, a girl in the tricolor, was the boldest of the four. She kept her grip on her brother Bowser and gave Laura a direct gaze.
Shortly after the housewarming, the kittens set off to explore their new room, looking into literally every corner.
The tanuki kept coming up to Laura, sitting down in front of her and just staring. It was she who first made a close acquaintance with the foster mother and tried her knees.
The young child eventually cuddled up on Laura’s lap after a little stomping, perhaps thinking of it as her warm bed.
She settled in and began to purr.
While the other kittens played and ran around, the little Tanuki enjoyed the warmth, caress and attention of the foster family.
Whenever Laura sat down on the floor, the tricolor girl would run up and jump on top of her. However, she was not the only tame kitten in the house.
Her brother Bowser followed her everywhere. Of course, he did not want to stay away from the cuddle party.
“Eventually Bowser and Tanuki figured out they could fit in my lap together,” Laura says. “Now they are purring and cuddling together, gazing at me.”
Bowser developed an exceptionally adoring and affectionate purr in only a few short weeks.
“Watching these kittens grow and evolve into unique beings is quite cool.”
Since being removed from the streets, former street kids have actually grown.
When not playing, they cuddle together and fall asleep in each other’s arms.
And two weeks ago, the brother and sister duo found a permanent home – they were adopted together! A kitten’s dream come true.
“I’m more than happy that they stay together. They will bring a lot of happiness to their new people,” says Laura.
Tanuki and Bowser (renamed Tanka) have already settled in the house and consider it theirs.
Now they both wake up as live alarm clocks in the morning and share a huge bed with their “parents.”
The house is filled with kittens’ happy meows and purrs as they begin each day.
