A woman saw a small animal racing across the road while she was driving in the middle of the night and quickly recognized it was a kitten. When she pulled over and stepped out to check on the young kitten because she was worried, she saw the mother cat sitting close by, next to an open box.
Three more kittens were inside, huddled up together in the cold and terrified, so she cautiously moved over and glanced in.
The woman knew the little family wouldn’t be able to survive out in the cold for much longer, so she gently loaded them all into her car and took them home with her, then contacted the RSPCA to see if it could help.
“It was below freezing on Saturday night [in Birmingham, England] so I’m certain the poor kittens could well have perished if they’d not been found by this lovely lady,” Herchy Boal, an inspector with the RSPCA, said in a press release. “They’re only a few weeks old and are extremely vulnerable.”
After being examined by a veterinarian, it was confirmed that all five cats in the small family were in good health. The family was taken in by the RSPCA’s Newbrook Farm shelter. They are extremely fortunate that the cold did not worsen their condition and that the wonderful woman discovered and took them in at the exact right time.
Boal added, “It’s really despicable for someone to decide to dump a mother cat and her kittens in this. We’re in the middle of this run of incredibly cold and perilous weather.” We’d want to thank the lady for being so generous in taking them home and keeping them warm until we could pick them up.
Staff at the shelter decided to name the mom cat Disco, and her kittens KP, NikNak, Pringle and Skip. The kittens are around 6 weeks old, and soon the entire family will be up for adoption. Everyone is excited to help find the cats their forever homes, and are thrilled that they all have an opportunity at a second chance after being so cruelly abandoned.
Boal said: “Unfortunately, the RSPCA sees this all too frequently—mothers and their litters or kittens all by themselves being abandoned by owners who had unintended babies.” “Now, I’d like to hear from anyone who might know where these animals have originated from or who is accountable for such a cruelly dumped them,” she continued.
