After losing his owner, Ben Franklin moved to the Animal Welfare Society in New Milford, Connecticut, in June 2021. He was undoubtedly a touch uneasy, but his distinctive eyes and expression made everyone fall in love with him straight immediately.
Ben is crosseyed and also has a perpetually sad-looking face, but neither seems to affect him at all. The only real effect it has is making him irresistibly adorable to everyone who sees him.
“We noticed his crossed eyes right away and thought they were so cute,” Crystal, a staff member at the Animal Welfare Society, told The Dodo. “Ben has seen our vet, and there was no concern about his eyes.”
People would believe that Ben’s eyes would prevent him from being adopted, yet the contrary is really true. When prospective adopters first see his adorable face, they are really drawn to him.
He’s been waiting for almost a year for someone to finally take a chance on him, but he’s not as cuddly or outgoing as people expect him to be straight away.
“Ben’s ideal home would be quiet with someone patient and understanding,” Crystal said. “He would be okay with another easygoing cat that will respect his space and not want to play, but would prefer a home without dogs or small children. Even though Benjamin requires a special home, we know there is someone out there for him!”
Ben also needs his new family to maintain him on a particular medication-required diet. His buddies at the shelter believe that the reason he is now acting a little distant is that he has had a difficult time adjusting to shelter life. I’m hoping he’ll be able to unwind and open up after he’s established into his new house.
Ben Franklin may appear depressed, but his pals at the shelter will keep looking until they find him the right home because he genuinely does want to find them.
