In the bushes in front of a home in Lake Worth, Florida, kittens were discovered. They were discovered by locals, who then posted a plea for assistance on social media.
Carmen Weinberg, the creator of Animal Friends Project, became engaged after seeing that one of the kittens had an umbilical cord wrapped around its paw.
They responded to me about noon the next day. Carmen recalls hastily picking up the hurt kitten and rushing it to the clinic.
It turned out that two more kittens from the litter had serious health problems. Carmen took all three for emergency care, while the rest of the babies were left with a feral cat mother who nursed them.
Despite Carmen’s best efforts, the kitten with the injured paw stopped fighting. His siblings, Apple and Blueberry, received treatment and are on the mend.
The two were indissoluble from the start. Both have velvety, black fur that has been “silvered” with “gray hair” since birth.
According to Carmen, “Such an unstable, changeable hue suggests that their mother had a fever or overworked throughout pregnancy.”
With a couple of weeks of round-the-clock care, the siblings noticeably rounded up and got stronger enough to start experiencing strength in their legs and even learn how to take care of themselves.
Apple licked her paws for a long time, and not a single speck of dust had time to linger on her fur coat. She also kept her brother Blueberry clean, even if it meant taking him away from his wild games. “They stayed awake longer and played more.”
Of course, Carmen did not overlook the surviving kittens on the wild cat. When she went back to see her, she discovered that the cat had almost completely disappeared, leaving only one kitten—a female called Cherry—in its stead.
The three kittens were reunited around a month after the incidents started. Cherry was welcomed into the flock by Apple and Blueberry, who showed her everything. The rest of the family, including the neighborhood cats, came over to welcome the newcomer.
“Apple and Blueberry are very nice to Cherry, but there’s a special bond between the two,” says Carmen.
They perfectly understand each other during the game and touch faces when they fall asleep. “Very active and playful, they always stick together.”
The Darbster Kitty adoption facility took care of the kittens when the time came. It was incredibly difficult to let them go, but it was necessary so that we could keep helping the other animals in our community.
A few weeks later, Carmen got the wonderful news she had been anticipating. “Apple was chosen, and she was brought along with her brother Blueberry.”
The adoptive parents were so imbued with the history of the kittens that they persuaded their neighbors to temporarily take Cherry so that all three could see each other until Cherry finds permanent owners.
And a few more days later, Cherry also found a permanent family, large and friendly. “I’m happy for them. The time spent with Cherry, Apple and Blueberry will forever be in my heart. They radiated love and purred non-stop,” shares Carmen.
Tiny lumps have turned into luxurious home panthers. They continue to fall in love with everyone they meet and live life to the fullest.
