Jacque, a 3-year-old cat, only wanted someone to love him, but he kept getting turned down.
When Jacque was around 7 months old in May 2016, his first owner went away without taking Jacque with him.
He was discovered inside a foreclosed home. According to Nancy Hutchinson, founder and president of Michigan Cat Rescue, “The person who owned him abandoned him there and didn’t care.” “The realtor discovered him and took him to the shelter. Sadly, this occurs pretty frequently.
Jacque was placed on the euthanasia list since the shelter was overflowing with dogs and cats and no one was interested in adopting him. However, Hutchinson’s visit ended up saving his life.
Hutchinson said, “I saw him in his cage and felt so awful for him. “I unlocked his cage, sat with him on the floor for a time, and he took a seat on my lap. I remarked, “Wow. What a sweet kitty!
Realizing how special he was, Hutchinson pulled Jacque from the shelter and took him into the care of Michigan Cat Rescue. Then she and the other volunteers searched for a home for him.
“We advertised him as a lap cat,” Hutchinson said. “This woman came along and she adopted him.”
But this didn’t turn out to be the forever home everyone hoped for.
She declared that she no longer desired him after roughly a year, according to Hutchinson. She said, “I just can’t take it any more; he keeps wanting to sit in my lap. I’ll have to give him back to you since this is not what I agreed to do.
The rescue team as a whole was in shock.
Actually, she wanted a lap cat explicitly, so it is what she signed up for, according to Hutchinson. But she just grew weary of his presence.
When Jacque came back to the rescue group, he was visibly distressed — and he ended up getting really sick.
“He didn’t eat for a few days,” Hutchinson said. “I think he was confused and upset by the rejection. Stress can really take its toll — not just on people, but on animals — and it broke down his immune system. He had a horrible upper respiratory cold; his eyes were swollen and infected.”
After recovering Jacque’s health, the group started looking for a new place for him to live. However, they were much pickier this time.
Hutchinson stated, “We received many applications for him, but many of them weren’t fit for his personality.
Then Liz Myziuk and her husband submitted an application to adopt Jacque. Hutchinson organized a time for them to meet Jacque because she had a good feeling about them.
“We met Liz and her husband at one of our veterinary hospitals, and we put them in a room together,” Hutchinson said. “I let him out of the carrier, and he walked around a little bit. Then they picked him up and put him in their laps and he just stayed there. They were crying and so happy — they were so in love with him.”
They came out and said, “We want to give him a home. I left him in the room with them. He should go,’” Hutchinson continued. “I then began to cry. I was simply happy. Jacque was probably relieved as well. I believe he realized that his happy ending had come to pass.
Jacque moved into his new house without any difficulty, even getting a new name: Giuseppe.
“They absolutely love him,” Hutchinson said. “He’s doing really well. It’s just really great.”
Hutchinson, who has a special place in her heart for Giuseppe, is over the moon that he finally got the home he deserves.
We were devastated when his owner gave him back to us, she said. “I was completely inconsolable for him, and I could tell that he felt the same way.
Finding him the ideal home is thus a very wonderful thing. It makes me weep because we strive every day to preserve their lives so they may enjoy fulfilling lives. That is why we do all of this.
