A little kitten is clinging to two sanitation employees after being rescued from a rubbish bag; as seen by his numerous meows, he is now leading a very pleasant existence in his new home.
For William Montero and John Kase, employees of the New York Department of Sanitation, last Monday appeared like any other day. They heard a succession of meows as they went about their usual business in Queens, collecting up trash bags and putting them in the back of the truck.
Bill stated:
“I hoped that what I was hearing was a toy when I first heard it. Sadly, no, it wasn’t.”
Both workers kept hearing the insistent meowing coming from a garbage bag, so they thought it was an abandoned animal. When they opened the bag to investigate, they found a little kitten who was very scared, his heart was beating very fast and he needed help.
He had been abandoned on the pavement and somehow, a horrible individual had thrown him in the garbage bag, but the workers saved him just in time. They were taken aback, so they made the decision to go through all the trash for further cats to make sure there weren’t any more abandoned ones.
They spent some time exploring the compactor of the truck, but didn’t find another stray, which eased their day a little.
The kitten seemed a little anxious about the situation but was relieved to be in the workers’ care and security. The two friends attempted to transfer the small cat in a cardboard box, but the kitten always squirmed or climbed out.
As William said:
“He loves to climb. He was not allowed to be present.”
Although the kitten was still too scared, John decided to hold him against his chest to calm him down a bit and the therapy proved to be very effective. As he hugged one of his rescuers, the little boy slowly showed his true personality.
John and William are animal lovers, so they decided to name the little kitten Hopper, after the back of the truck.
When they told Noah’s Ark Animal Rescue about the kitten’s predicament, the shelter agreed right once to help them and took the cat in.
Little Hopper was diagnosed with an upper respiratory illness and was assessed to be 10 weeks old by the shelter. Hopper got into a loving foster family after receiving the medical care he required to overcome his health problems.
The kitten started out on the road to recovery with a caring family and is now comfortably recovering in his new home. Hopper is making progress toward a complete recovery with the assistance of volunteers and sanitation employees at the rescue facility.
Williams continued:
We simply carried out what I would anticipate a typical person to perform.
In order to keep Hopper comfortable until they could find him a permanent home, the staff decided to pay him a visit and got him a bed and supplies.
Luckily, Hopper now has a bright future ahead of him, and he will surely find a forever family soon.
