Barney spent the majority of his life on the streets, where he was able to endure several winters and a challenging existence. He was quite unwell when he was ultimately saved, and was promptly sent to the Chatons Orphelins Montréal rescue facility to get critical medical attention.
The fluffy kitten’s sickness was brought on by years of living on the streets, but it appears that residents in the neighborhood where he was found fed him.
He wasn’t neutered, his body was covered in battle wounds, and he tested positive for FIV when the doctor examined him (feline immunodeficiency virus).
Celine Crom, the center’s director, confirmed:
The kitty resided in a community (in Montreal, Canada). Even though one of his ears froze, he made it through the winter by learning to subsist on his own. He was fed by neighbors, but no one looked after him. Everyone was accustomed to seeing him since he was a fantastic alley cat.
The kitten’s nose was completely blocked, which made breathing difficult. One of his ears was damaged by freezing brought on by low temperatures; he also required dental care, parasite therapy, and ear mite treatment.
Despite his health, Barney just wanted to cuddle up and get some affection.
The rescue center added:
“This big teddy bear came straight to us asking for a little TLC. He had very large cheeks, strong muscles. He had to be the king of the neighborhood of him ».
The vets prescribed Barney some medication to combat his illnesses. When it was about two months into his recovery, he was completely healthy and ready to be sterilized.
The rescuers report:
“It was badly damaged when it returned inside after spending the winter outside. He was fortunate to be discovered in time for treatment. Now, when Barney is asleep, he snores a bit. Due to the injury he sustained to his eyelid, one of his eyes is still a bit teary. His history is still being left behind in the streets, and he intends to stay this way. But he is special and we love him.
Barney was taken in by volunteers Mathilde and Patricia while he was getting better; at first he was shy and tried to hide when he heard sounds or saw people, but with time and after receiving love and attention in his foster home, everything changed.
The rescuers continued:
“He changed a lot in a few of weeks and adapted extremely swiftly. He requests hugs every day and enjoys drawing attention. The timid young one has transformed into a true teddy bear who enjoys anticipating visitors at the door.
About six months after being saved and having his health totally recovered, Barney’s wish to find a permanent home was finally realized.
