It’s safe to say that Paris Zarcilla didn’t begin his day on Wednesday expecting to be thrown into the position of cat father, but he is accepting the responsibility with a joyful and eager heart.
A British filmmaker named Zarcilla described the odd situation he found himself in this morning when going into his room to get a sweatshirt on Twitter. There was a cat that wasn’t his, curled up below his bed. She had supposedly just given birth to a litter of four kittens, as if that weren’t a shock enough. Now, his room served as a kitten nursery.
This is how Zarcilla revealed the finding.
Now, a person who lacked compassion may have immediately evicted the small family. not Zarcilla, though.
Instead, he was overcome with a sense of paternal duty.
Zarcilla said that he is unsure of the cat’s origins but surmises that the happy new mother may be a neighbor’s cat. He occasionally leaves the back door open, so she may have entered secretly. But it’s unclear why she picked his room to give birth in.
I’m really perplexed,” Zarcilla wrote.
Despite the uncertainty, Zarcilla fell in love right away.
In the series of tweets that followed, Zarcilla’s heart continued to swell. He’d found his calling.
“I am living for these babies. Any work commitments I have are now temporarily on hold,” he wrote. “Sorry, I’m a dad now.”
Zarcilla then added:
To my cat sons and daughters, I’ll be the hero you deserve, but not the one it needs right now (because of mama cat). So I’ll hunt for you, because I can afford it. I’ll be your silent guardian, your watchful protector. Love, #CatDad
Just in case the mother cat has a family who’s missing her, Zarcilla said he plans to take her to the vet to check for a microchip. But if none can be found, he seems more than eager to give her and her kittens a home with him.
“I am so ready to be a dad right now,” he wrote.
Zarcilla later added: “I think I’m living the best day of my life.” You can keep up with Zarcilla’s adventures as a new cat dad by following him on Twitter. Or, to follow his lead by caring for needy kittens, here’s everything you need to know about becoming a foster parent.
