A worker in eastern Oklahoma discovered a cat with a can attached to her head at a car dealership. The merchant attempted to assist the kitten, who was bewildered and meowing urgently for assistance, but the cat fled right away.
When Brian Sheppard, the dealership manager, learned of the kitten’s tragic past with the dealer, he made the decision to go in search of her.
Brian said,
“I got up to go, but I couldn’t find her. I noticed her behind my business about closing time.
The man approached the kitten and noticed that she was very thin, so he gave her a chicken that had not been eaten for lunch. The feline was very hungry, so she ate all the food that Brian gave her in her hand, she was very grateful to him.
At the time, Brian thought the cat may be a neighbor’s, but after being fed, she came back to the dealership two days later.
Brian says:
“I visited a store and purchased a bed, food, plates, and cat litter. He was waiting for me at the door when I returned, so I fed him. I observed that she was nursing the babies as she ate.
For that reason, Brian knew he couldn’t keep her inside his office, as her kittens were waiting for her somewhere in the neighborhood. So, after the kitten finished eating, the man made a makeshift shelter behind his tent in hopes that he would bring the kittens from him.
Brian started calling the kitten Sophie, and every time she saw him she jumped on his lap to get some love.
After a week, Brian was able to see Sophie in a house across the street from his store, apparently where she lived. However, the kitten continued to visit the dealership daily, as she liked to spend a lot of time with her new human friend.
Brian added:
“He came to my office, found his food and water. Also, he found the bed I bought him and slept on it.”
Brian made the decision one day to go to the front door and inquire for Sophie. When he arrived, he was in for a great surprise when he spotted Sophie’s two kittens. The owner of the house appeared to accept to the man’s offer to adopt kids since he had no interest in keeping them and caring for them.
However, his little daughter wasn’t really amused by what she was hearing, so Brian made the decision to wait until they were prepared for adoption.
Brian said:
“After that, I didn’t hear from the man or see Sophie for a week.”
It seemed that the kitty family had decided to keep them inside, but one night as Brian was closing up shop he spotted a cat sitting on the welcome mat by the front door, and she wasn’t alone.
He said:
“I was getting ready to close my store, and Sophie was standing by my vehicle, with two kittens. She had taken them to her food source.’
Brian opened the front door and Sophie ran into the office and started eating, she knew where all her belongings were. The kittens weren’t scared, but they were very playful, so Brian called them over and was finally able to pick them up and bring them inside.
Brian added:
“I spoke to my wife and told her that I was very attached to Sophie. My wife said, ‘We can try it here at home’.”
It wasn’t easy for Brian’s wife, but she got used to it quickly, and Sophie became an official member of the family.
It has been more than four years since Brian found Sophie, she is a very happy cat and will be loved forever.
