A 3-week-old cat and his siblings were discovered abandoned on the streets. A caring individual took them in and tried to care for them, but when he realized he couldn’t provide them the specialist care they need, he decided to get in touch with Saving One Life for assistance.
The kitten was a joyful cat who made an attempt to keep up with his siblings in everything, despite having only three legs and considerable difficulty walking owing to the bend in his left hind limb.
Volunteer at the rescue facility Caroline Grace explained:
I observed that JD (the tabby cat) had a twisted rear limb and a missing front leg after the kitten admission examinations.
Unfortunately, the vet informed Caroline that there was nothing they could do for JD’s crooked paw problem, preventing her from giving him the chance to walk and play like any other kitten.
Volunteer reports:
I knew there was something we could at least attempt since I had heard of cases where twisted limbs straightened up in the past. I requested through the Saving One Life Parenting Network that anyone with knowledge of how to treat sprained limbs inform me.
Another volunteer named Evette, shared with Caroline her experience of working with a kitten with crooked legs, she told the woman about the physiotherapy massage technique to improve feline motor skills.
Immediately, Caroline began massaging JD’s hind leg every three hours. After a few days, the crooked leg became a little more mobile.
The woman added:
“He showed me photos of the kitten’s progress. I felt hopeful and empowered to help JD.”
Caroline sought assistance from Jennifer, a physical therapist, who taught her some splinting techniques and pushed JD to use his leg with the use of slings and other therapeutic procedures in order to increase his range of motion.
As Caroline recalls:
“To help her gain greater traction, I placed yoga mats in her room. She was able to walk correctly on her rear leg after a week. In all honesty, it was one of the most challenging yet gratifying experiences.”
JD was now more motivated to walk and attempted to imitate his brothers in everything; he even tried to outdo them by becoming more naughty. He wanted to play, run, and leap the moment he placed his three little paws on the earth.
When JD first met Andrea, she had a cat that was also missing her front paw, and the two instantly fell in love. Andrea met JD when the baby was five weeks old. The cute tabby had found the ideal home.
As soon as the three-legged kitten was two months old, he went home forever with his new mother. He quickly adapted to his new surroundings and would seek out game and roam his new home with curiosity.
JD finally met his new feline sisters, he and Thelma the three-legged cat hit it off right away, it was like they had always been part of the family.
Andrea said:
“They first joined over their missing front left legs. It was the sweetest thing to see her take it under her wing and start preparing it soon after they met.”
Although it took Louise, the second cat in the home, some time to approach JD, it is now common to see them cuddling one other. JD is the average younger sibling that likes to get into trouble and annoy the elder sibling. He likes to follow his mother around the home and loves hugs.
Carol claims:
“JD is now enjoying life to the fullest and has no problems with his formerly misaligned rear limb. He is a lively and energetic cat that enjoys playing, running, jumping, and climbing.
