A senior cat’s life can be challenging, particularly if he finds himself on the streets during a big weather. When Buster originally appeared on a family’s back porch in Ontario, New York, no one was aware of his origins or his history.
But it was obvious that he required assistance.
As they left food out for him, the family noticed that he always tucked his paws under his body. He also looked uncomfortable and in distress. They worried that he wouldn’t last much longer without care. After a while, they were able to catch him.
The Greater Rochester Humane Society, Lollypop Farm, was the next stop for them. The doctor found him there and estimated his age to be around 10, making him a senior feline.
It was also discovered that he had plasmacytic pododermatitis. This rare and poorly understood disease causes sore footpads and may be related to FIV. In addition, he had an ear infection and two bad teeth.
No wonder poor Buster was limping everywhere!
Buster ended up in mitten bandages and then a Cone of Shame because he kept pulling off the mittens.
But other than that, he purred happily and reacted to everything the vet did to him. The mittens were removed after a few weeks, and Buster was making good progress toward recuperation.
