When a powerful earthquake struck in the Osaka region of Japan last month, it caused widespread damage and panic. However, people living nearby weren’t the only ones who suffered.
Turns out, so was a group of adoptable kitties at this nearby cat cafe. In fact, they seemed to sense something was amiss even before it began.
The seconds before the earthquake on June 18 are seen in newly released video from the Wakayama prefecture’s CATcafeCATchy.
The clip shows a room full of felines, who are seen lounging around as you might expect when, without warning, several of the cats appear to be startled.
Thankfully, none of the cats were hurt during the terrifying incident, according to Sora News 24. Many of them were so unconcerned by the trembling that they didn’t even bother to get up from their comfortable seats.
It seems that some cats are more calm under pressure than others.
Although it’s not apparent if what the cats felt before the actual tremor started was also visible to people, the idea that animals can foretell such events has really been around for decades.
A woman’s rescue dog dragged her from her home six months ago, just before a significant earthquake shook Taiwan, and in one recent instance, that apparent forewarning may have saved a life. She went back inside and saw that the room where she had been was severely destroyed.
That is, of course, just one more good reason to adopt a cat — and, with any luck, the increased exposure these adoptable kittens at CATcafeCATchy are getting may enhance their chances of finding forever homes of their own.
