Late one night, a woman was driving when she noticed a little animal scurrying across the road. She soon discovered it was a cat. She stopped the car out of concern and stepped out to check on the kitten when she saw the mother cat sitting close by, next to an open box. She cautiously approached and glanced inside, discovering three additional kittens curled up together, frightened and exposed to the elements.
The woman knew the little family wouldn’t be able to survive out in the cold for much longer, so she gently loaded them all into her car and took them home with her, then contacted the RSPCA to see if it could help.
“It was below freezing on Saturday night [in Birmingham, England] so I’m certain the poor kittens could well have perished if they’d not been found by this lovely lady,” Herchy Boal, an inspector with the RSPCA, said in a press release. “They’re only a few weeks old and are extremely vulnerable.”
After being examined by a veterinarian, it was confirmed that all five cats in the little family were in good condition. The family was taken in by the RSPCA’s Newbrook Farm shelter. They are extremely fortunate that the cold did not worsen their condition and that the wonderful woman discovered and took them in at the exact right time.
Boal added, “It’s really horrible for someone to decide to dump a mother cat and her kittens like this. We’re in the middle of this run of incredibly cold and perilous weather.” We’d want to thank the lady for being so generous in taking them home and keeping them warm until we could pick them up.
The mother cat, Disco, and her kittens, KP, NikNak, Pringle, and Skip were given those names by the shelter staff. Around six weeks old, the kittens will soon be available for adoption as a whole.
Everyone is pleased that the cats have a chance at a second chance after being so brutally abandoned and is eager to assist in finding the animals their forever homes.
Boal said: “Unfortunately, the RSPCA sees this all too frequently—mothers with their litters or kittens all by themselves being abandoned by owners who had unintended babies.”
“Now, I’d like to hear from anyone who might know where these animals have originated from or who is accountable for such a brutally dumped them,” she said.
