When Luna was just 5 weeks old, she was discovered abandoned in a cornfield. Three days later, she discovered her future home and adapted well to it. Shayla was the other cat in her new home, and it was assumed that Luna would pick up tips and tricks from her.
They always assumed that leaving Shayla’s food out and letting her eat whenever she was hungry would work for Luna as well, until they learned just how much she enjoys eating.
The Dodo quoted Luna’s mother, Tarin Tanner, as saying, “When we initially received Luna, we open-fed her.” “That was a horrible choice since she put on weight so quickly, and the vet even handed me a leaflet on feline obesity at one point. I knew she had to go at that point.
Even when they stopped leaving her food out, the chubby cat would eat too fast every time she was fed and then cry for food the rest of the day. Luna’s family knew they needed to do something about her obsession with food, so they decided to buy her an automatic feeder that dispensed smaller amounts of food five times a day.
Luna wasn’t quite sure about the new device at first, but as soon as she realized it was food-related, she fell instantly in love with it.
When she initially saw the problem, Tanner said, “she realized it was food-related since the back of the feeder had a massive tank.” She tried to break into it for the most of the evening without success. She first fled as it discharged, but she quickly turned around after realizing it was giving out food. Since then, she has fallen in love with it.
Every day, food is dispensed from the automated feeder at the same times. Tanner quickly discovered that Luna had learned the pattern and would begin to stand in front of the feeder well in advance of each set time.
Even when it isn’t close to feeding time, Luna still likes to hang out in front of the feeder, just in case she happens to get lucky.
“If she isn’t busy napping she likes to spend her time hanging by the feeder, being a kitty land mine,” Tanner said. “Sometimes she lays on her back, other times she just stares at it almost willing the food to come.”
The automated feeder has been a huge assistance to Luna’s family in their efforts to ensure that she follows her diet. Luna would certainly spend the entire day eating if she had her way and would not feel the slightest bit guilty about it.
She probably likes eating more than anything else, according to Tanner.
