About two months ago, Roxy, a cat, was given to The Odd Cat Sanctuary in Salem, Massachusetts. After becoming pregnant, the previous owner was unable to keep the woman at home.
Roxy was taken in by Katrina, a volunteer caregiver for The Odd Cat, so that she could nurture the kittens in a cozy and peaceful setting.
She rapidly grew used to us and was frequently the recipient of our hugs and kisses. We initially didn’t think she was pregnant because of her small frame. This is her third pregnancy, and she hasn’t even turned two,” explains Katrin.
Roxy went into labor unexpectedly and gave birth to four gorgeous, healthy kittens.
“She didn’t make a sound all night, so we had no idea she was in labor. When we arrived, she had already put everything in order, the kittens were clean, says Katrina. “She kept them in a carrier for weeks until they learned to get out on their own.”
The mother cat was happy to get some help from Katrina. “She always trusted me to take care of the kittens and change the sheets.”
The four Fluffies (Bennett, Darcy, Bingley and Collins) grew by leaps and bounds and learned to walk. Bennett, a kitten with a charming “mole” on his left cheek, was the first to risk leaving the warm nest.
“Bennett marches to the beat of his own drums.”
“When his brothers and sisters sleep, he stays awake. When they are cheerful, he nods. When they frolic in the play tunnel, he explores the opposite side of the room,” says Katrina.
“He loves the attention. We often say “where is Bennet?” and he jumps out from behind a cat tree or a bookcase.”
The youngster frequently nods off while sitting and is always eager to snuggle.
“They want to snag all of our affection from us as soon as we come through their door. When we sit down and try to warm ourselves on our laps, they struggle for places on our shoulders, claims Katrina.
They like to jump up, grip someone’s shins, and climb as high as they can to attract attention, says Katrina.
Bennett enjoys hiding and running. He will undoubtedly hide under me if I get on my knees and assault my gaping siblings covertly.
As the kittens became more playful and mischievous, caregivers began to notice that little Bennett and his sister Darcy developed a special relationship.
“They tend to gravitate towards each other. He often hugs her.”
Brother and sister like to go everywhere together, bask and fall asleep together in the arms of a foster mother.
Roxy’s mom is happy to be helped to raise her children and she can relax more often in her own time.
In a few weeks, the kittens will be spayed and neutered, and Roxy will officially be freed from maternal duties and find a permanent home where she will be loved and pampered.
Under the care of guardians, the entire cat family, including baby Bennett, flourishes.
Bennet relaxes in his foster mother’s lap, purring loudly, as his brothers engage in games of chasing or wrestling.
