Nobody in Birmingham, England noticed the garbage bag that had been left outside of a row of stores until they discovered it was moving. When other people walked over to look, they discovered a mother cat and her three kittens curled up inside the bag, obviously lost and in need of help.
The kittens appeared to be only around 4 weeks old. One of the people who discovered the kittens quickly called the RSPCA, and a small crowd gathered to keep the kittens company while they waited for help to arrive. Boris Lasserre, an inspector with the RSPCA, got the call and headed out to collect the little family — but before he arrived, a member of the crowd grabbed one of the tiny kittens and ran away with him.
By the time Lasserre got there, the kitten was long gone, much to the distress of everyone involved.
According to a news release from Lasserre, “As if it wasn’t already terrible that someone left this mother cat and kittens in grave danger inside a rubbish bag on a busy street, it’s totally appalling that another person made off with one of the little kittens just before I arrived.”
The benevolent individuals who waited with the kittens were likewise astonished and upset. The kittens are just a few weeks old and need to remain with their mother; raising a cat at that age without a lot of expertise would be quite challenging.
Since no one knew the person who took the kitten or had any idea where they could have gone, Lasserre had no choice but to take the mother cat and the remaining two kittens with him, and hope that whoever stole the kitten would eventually realize the error of their ways and return him.
The RSPCA Birmingham Animal Hospital received an urgent call to treat the little cat family. Their rescuers became even more anxious for the missing kitten when the vet who examined them found that they all had eye infections, fleas, and worms.
The kidnapped kitten most certainly has the same issues and will require immediate medical attention, in addition to the care and milk provided by the mother cat, according to Lasserre. “I am pleading with the person who kidnapped the kitten to get in touch and return him or her as soon as possible. She is very affectionate and takes good care of her offspring.”
The mother cat and her two kittens are doing amazingly well in the interim, and once they are old enough, they will all move out to find devoted forever homes.
