When their owners were unable to care for them any longer, a tabby cat and her six brand-new kittens were turned over to a nearby shelter in Montreal, Canada.
Four kittens made it out alive, but they needed rescue since their cat mother was under too much stress to provide them food. The kittens’ natural colors had not been completely deposited, giving them the appearance of having been born with a fever coat. This happens when a pregnant cat mother is under stress or is sick with a fever.
The little cat family was taken in by Chatons Orphelins Montréal so they wouldn’t have to stay at the shelter and could be put in a foster home.
The mother cat required immediate treatment due to her precarious condition. The kittens were bottle-fed continuously while she was away every several hours. They hurled themselves on their bottle because they were that hungry, Chatons Orphelins Montréal said.
When they initially came, the little bundles of fur were underweight. They rapidly brightened up and began gaining weight with help from Dorothee, a foster volunteer.
Milkie, the mother cat, was happy to receive the attention she needed. She made the decision to permanently leave motherhood when she had recovered from surgery.
The colors and markings the kittens would eventually have weren’t known at the moment, but they would in a few weeks.
Milkie returned to her foster mother when they reunited her with her kittens as if to formally give her kids to the kind people she trusted.
“All she wants right now is her foster mother’s love and attention. Every time she is close to her, she purrs.”
The kittens’ silver-gray fur eventually gave way to the natural colorful markings as they developed.
One of the kittens turned white and gray, while the other three developed into gorgeous tiny tabbies.
“They are loving and lovely. They soon begin purring and nod off as their foster mother cradles them in her arms.”
With support and unwavering love from their foster home, the kittens overcame a few health challenges along the road.
At nine weeks old, the feline siblings have transformed into gorgeous little kitties – Dodo, Jules, Annabelle (the three tabbies) and Remi (white and gray).
Soon, they will be ready for their forever loving homes.
In addition to eating well, they are becoming noisy and playful.
But being carried and loved is their absolute favorite thing.
