In August, Georgia’s family adopted her from the Maryland’s Linda L. Kelly Animal Shelter. They recognized her right away as someone who belonged in their family.
Georgia’s mother, Wendy Bohon, told The Dodo, “I took one of my 7-year-old boys with me and told him that we had to look at all the animals, not just a few, before we pick on a family member.” He came over to her cage and said, “This is our cat, and her name is Georgia. He totally ignored me. Georgia is now our cat, and she has that name.
Georgia settled into her new home right away and immediately became very attached to her mom. She has to be with her pretty much at all times and loves “helping” her while she works. Even though she means well, Georgia’s adventures across her mom’s desk were getting a bit distracting, so Bohon came up with an idea to keep her occupied during work hours.
In order to get her to let me work, Bohon’s supervisor advised that I play her some of the YouTube bird films on my second monitor. She didn’t care too much about the birds, but as soon as the snakes started, she lost it.
Now, Georgia waits in front of the second monitor for the snakes to arrive so that she may start working once Bohon settles down at her desk and is ready to work.
She begins chirping and meowing as soon as the YouTube screen appears, and then she observes the snakes, frequently pawing at the screen or looking beneath and behind the monitor to see where they went, according to Bohon. “She goes downstairs with me every time I get up from my desk, so she knows it’s work time every time I go back upstairs, and the snakes are her ‘job,’ so she’s ready to go!”
Georgia places a great deal of importance on her work, and she will undoubtedly speak out if her mother doesn’t promptly switch on the snakes.
She will typically swat at my hand with soft paws if I don’t turn them on or don’t put them on quickly enough, but if I ignore her, her claws will emerge or she will start tapping her monitor with her paw, according to Bohon. “She’s nuts!”
Georgia now takes her job as the desktop snake watcher extremely seriously since she believes she was always supposed to be a part of her family.
