You never know how much a tiny act of kindness will mean to someone. It fundamentally changed Granpruno the cat.
A Montreal couple started putting out food for stray cats in their area last summer. They quickly became aware of a grumpy-appearing tabby who appeared particularly eager for food. They called him “Granpruno” because he resembled one of their kittens, Pruno.
Granpruno frequented the couple’s yard on a daily basis, but they imagined he had a family someplace because of how lovable and outgoing he was.
This large cat was content to get attention and was asking for cuddles. He arrived as soon as they phoned him, according to a Facebook post from animal rescue group Chatons Orphelins Montréal in Montreal. He had lovely hair, was friendly, and appeared to be a typical guy.
The couple became concerned when Granpruno unexpectedly failed to appear one day. They hoped he was fine and with his family, but they kept food out and kept an eye on their yard in case he returned.
They found Granpruno in their trash can a few weeks later as they were taking out the trash. They scarcely recognized the cute cat anymore because of his radical transformation.
He was “flesh and bones” and didn’t appear to be in good health, according to Chatons Orphelins Montréal. “When he approached them, they immediately gave him hugs. He did not speak as he allowed himself to be taken along with them.
The couple, who volunteer with Chatons Orphelins Montréal, realized he needed immediate veterinary attention and took him to the rescue for help. Test results revealed that Granpruno was suffering from hyperthyroidism, which made it difficult for him to keep food down.
But once the 9-year-old cat started medication, he reverted to his happy, healthy self.
Chatons Orphelins Montréal said on Facebook, “He’s the best of the crop and he gets along nicely with the other cats in the house.” He enjoys talking or cuddling while still enjoying fun. He transforms into a cat that rolls on his back and rubs itself with joy if you play with catnip or have feathers. He chases feathers and plays about like a baby.
Chatons Orphelins Montréal worried that finding a home for a senior cat with health issues might be difficult, but Granpruno’s foster parents immediately fell in love with the sociable guy and decided to welcome him into their home — permanently.
Granpruno is now at last safe and enjoying a comfortable life with a family who loves him. And he is keeping an eye on his followers.
