A veterinary nurse in Dagenham, England, was on her way to work on Saturday when she came upon a strange bag that had been dropped by the side of the road close to her home. The nurse naturally chose to open the case to examine what was inside because it had air holes poked into it.
She then saw 15 small faces peering up at her; these were kittens that were lucky to have been rescued alive.
It isn’t known to whom the suitcase teeming with the sleepy kitties belongs, but it’s believed they may have been left there by an overwhelmed pet breeder who chose to abandon them rather than be sure they were cared for. It wouldn’t be the first time an act of cruelty resulted from a breeder putting profit ahead of an animal’s well-being.
Fortunately, the kittens, thought to be composed of several litters born between four and five weeks ago, were discovered by just the person to help.
The kittens were moved with the nurse’s assistance to the local Cats Protection Hornchurch & District Branch, where they will be fostered until they are old enough to be adopted, where they will be secure. Although the rapid flood of abandoned cats was unexpected, guardians are making sure they receive the care and affection they require.
According to a Cats Protection spokeswoman, “the kittens are thriving well.” “Five infants who are too young to be separated from their mothers are being bottle-fed. The other 10 are all so far excellent.”
We may never fully comprehend what could have led someone to deliberately endanger these 15 innocent lives, but the brutality of their abandonment has been replaced by something very else.
Online support has flooded Cats Protection since word of the kittens’ discovery over the weekend. In fact, all of the kittens already have permanent homes set up for them when the time comes for them to begin their lives as cherished pets.
