In Silver Spring, Maryland, Dan Yavetz was on his way to the neighborhood bank when he became a little sidetracked. But the brief trip was worthwhile since he unintentionally saved a life.
Yavetz told The Dodo, “I heard this little’meow’ coming from underneath the automobiles parked in front of the bank. “When I sat down, I spotted a kitten hiding and called to her. She unexpectedly ran outside and leaped into my arms.
The kitten was ready to be rescued and could tell that Yavetz was the right man to help.
“Instead of having to coax her out and work on her, she ran out right away, and I grabbed her, and she started purring and was really comfortable,” Yavetz said. “She was a beautiful-looking baby cat.”
Yavetz assumed that the friendly cat had escaped from the animal hospital in the shopping center, so he went to return her. “I went in and said, ‘Who’s missing a cat?’ and nobody claimed her,” Yavetz said.
The veterinary staff scanned the kitten for a microchip, but when they didn’t find one, Yavetz brought the cat back to his automotive shop and gas station to finish out the workday.
“She’s totally a road cat,” Yavetz said. “She was riding on my shoulder on the way home, sitting in the passenger seat. Real cool, not skittish or anything, just full of love and full of energy.”
Yavetz was aware that he needed to find the kitten a family of her own because he already had two cats at home. But after a few days of caring for her, he had formed an attachment.
The ideal answer then became available: the family of his daughter’s best friend, who was 8 years old, was wanting to adopt a cat. It’s the best of all worlds because not only did I find a fantastic home for the cat, but I also frequently see the owner since we frequently visit them with the kids.
The kitten, who has since been given the name Lily, is loving her new home. But whenever Yavetz visits, she always smiles.
She constantly bounces about when we visit, likes the cat tower and scratching post, and is a huge cuddler, according to Yavetz.
