A ginger tabby cat visits a little girl in Brooklyn, New York, and befriends her. She started feeding the nice wanderer, and he started to come back.
When the cat was injured and came at the end of last month, he immediately leaped on the ledge and meowed plaintively. The child and her family were able to assist him and transport him to the Little Wanderers NYC animal rights activists, who were able to provide the cat with the required medical attention.
“Little Wanderers don’t look the other way when it comes to human-centered street cats. “Carlton (red kitty) was sick and needed sutures behind his ear,” Little Wanderers NYC reports.
Despite all his experiences on the streets, Carlton was sweet and soft, like a teddy bear. He is estimated to be about five years old and also tested positive for feline HIV, which, however, does not prevent him from living a full life.
Karianna, an experienced foster care volunteer from Staten Island, New York, saw Carlton’s story on social media and offered to help. “All rescuers are inundated with cats and kittens right now because of the season and last year’s population outbreak,” Karianna says.
When Carlton first arrived at the foster home, he was nervous about his new surroundings, but he quickly found comfort in human companions. He was harsh, yet he had a decent heart and a wonderful spirit.
The cat was appreciative for all of the attention and was relieved that he didn’t have to go out and fetch his own food or find a place to sleep in the vast open world.
“He had a lot of matted fur and the wound behind his ear needed to be washed around the seams. He lost a lot of his teeth, but gladly took any food you gave him. It was easy to earn his trust as he really loves people. So plush,” says Karianna.
The red-striped one regularly melted in the human arms that hugged him. He enjoyed the company of people and completely immersed himself in petting sessions.
He began embracing nonstop during the day. He strolled about the home, searching for one of his adoptive parents to caress him, as if compensating for the lack of affection he had had on the streets.
“As soon as I scratched him a bit, he started purring.” He now prefers to lie spread on my lap till I am unable to move.”
“He looks like a big, friendly mountain lion. He will nudge your hand with his head if you don’t stroke him vigorously enough, and roll over onto his back, exposing his tummy. This is the perfect cat. Whoever takes it will be very lucky,” says Karianna.
The glorious pet fully recovered thanks to the help of animal rights activists. Now he is ready to find a permanent home.
“He is probably the friendliest and most relaxed cat you will ever meet. A real red-gold treasure.”
