The Nova Cat Clinic acquired a one-day-old kitten whose health required immediate attention a few weeks ago. All of her siblings and brothers died before she was born.
Volunteers from the Animal Welfare League of Arlington labored around the clock to save the kitten, but it was evident that their efforts were insufficient.
Helen Carozza, a trained veterinary assistant at Nova Cat Clinic, explains, “She came to me on February 5th because the volunteers knew that care for very ill neonates was my expertise.”
As an orphan, she is constantly drawn to warmth and anything that mimics the heartbeat of a cat mom.
She weighed only 71 g, but her warrior spirit did not allow her to give up. She really wanted love and affection, and Helen realized that it was time to introduce her to a great guy.
Helen has a cat named Benny who serves as the household’s master and adoptive father to a number of rescued kittens she has brought into the house over the years.
Benny’s heart is made of pure gold. When he spots a cub in distress, he leaps into action and begins to care for it as a mother would.
The baby, named Adora Belle, was no exception.
As soon as he spotted the kitten, Benny set to work. “First, we bathed Adora, after which we allowed Benny to express all his love, which he did without delay.”
The girl was placed in an incubator to regulate her body temperature, but nothing could stop the cat from doing his holy duty.
He fell asleep next to the incubator and supported the baby with his company throughout the night.
“I got home and walked to our home incubator with a cat carrier in my hands, and Benny spotted this and sat down right away, understanding I had a client for him,” Helen says.
“He feeds Adora while keeping an eye on her, and he also enjoys washing her.”
Nova Cat Clinic developed the Chris Griffey Foundation to assist rescued kittens like Adora with the resources they need to survive and grow.
The kitten is growing and gaining stronger every day with the support of a team of veterinarians and Benny’s unending devotion.
Literally in a week, little Adora doubled her weight and became three times stronger.
“Her eyes opened early, she saw Benny firsthand and she liked the way he washed her. And when he’s not around, she loves to be stroked with her personal toothbrush.”
Despite her rough start in life, the fluffy baby is in good spirits and has a bright future ahead of her.
Benny takes advantage of every opportunity to touch the infant and make her feel cherished.
