New York animal advocates Meow Parlour (aka cat café) welcomed a litter of abandoned kittens earlier this year. Christina Ha, one of the Meow Parlour founders, took the infants in and started bottle feeding them on time.
The kittens became acclimated to the excessive exposure. They were sent to socialization with volunteer Molly as soon as they transitioned to solid food. “I’m a professor.” My fifth-grade children witnessed my life as a caregiver and became really involved in the process last year when we spent a lot of time on Zoom,” Molly adds.
The students offered to choose names for the kittens and took this task seriously. After many meetings, the kittens were named Kanta, Mei, Totoro, Satsuki, and Kiki after Japanese cartoon characters.
Having first got on Molly’s knees, the kittens collectively decided to crowd there. As soon as Molly sat on the floor, she was covered with a fluffy moving blanket.
“These kittens were sweet and very loving with people. Coming home from school, I sat on the floor, and soon all five were purring in my lap. The bigger they got, the funnier it was,” Molly shares.

It rapidly became a habit to gather around Mom in anticipation of the next cuddle session.
They brazenly entwined their paws or stuck their fluid bodies around Molly’s legs. Persistent cuties came out to be huge loves that needed to be soaked up.
The kittens would take over the enormous bed and fill the room with booming purrs when Molly’s knees were out of reach for some reason. All the fluffy brethren rushed to “help” as soon as Molly picked up a mop.
They climbed onto Mom’s lap, satisfied with their contribution to the home, to finally embrace. What could be better than lounging in the presence of a loved one in between games?
“Gentleman Kiki often sits dignifiedly with his paws folded. He is happy when a person is near, ”Molly writes.
“Mei has always been the smallest, so for some time she devoted herself exclusively to food and sleep in order to bring her weight to 900 grams. Now that she’s done that, she’s very playful and snarky with her siblings.”
“Satsuki is very affectionate and is ready to dodge into any position, just to snuggle up to a person. She sleeps on her back and purrs when you stroke her soft tummy.”
“Kanta almost always reclines at ease on a person or his second love – shoes. And Totoro, this confident explorer, sticks his wet nose into your hand to stroke his muzzle about it.
Molly planned to place the fluffy five in excellent homes when they were old enough, where they would have someone to play with and snuggle with.
Satsuki and Mei were quickly placed in a good household, one for the two of them. “All five kitties adore each other, but these two have a particular affinity. “I’m so delighted they won’t have to be separated,” Molly says.
Because they were adopted as a couple, Kiki and Kanta will be able to play and bask together for the rest of their lives. Totoro has a new sister, Ziggy, who is also a black and white cat, with whom he has found happiness.
The five orphans blossomed into beautiful loving pets. They enjoy being pampered and happy to be around two-legged and four-legged loved ones.
