Scarlette Tipton, now two years old, had her left arm amputated when she was 10 months old due to cancer; Doc, a rescue cat, had her right paw severed following a vehicle accident. So the Tipton family, from California, headed to the shelter on Christmas Eve. Doc had become a member of the family by Wednesday.

“We wanted a tiny cat for [Scarlette] to grow up with so she could have something similar to her,” mum says. Love Meow spoke with Simone Tipton. She did saw Doc’s staples on her side and exclaimed, ‘owies.’ When I told her that she had owies exactly like her, she put her hand on her side and nodded. She realizes that the cat is going through the same problems she is.

Tragically, both this little child and this small cat have lost something.

Scarlette’s left arm had to be amputated due to cancer.

Doc After trying to lie beneath the hood of a car to remain warm, the cat lost her paw.

After the Tipton family saw the cat on TV, they found each other on Christmas Eve.

Scarlette’s misfortune began when she was diagnosed with a never-before-seen type of cancer that made her left arm swell up

Her parents struggled to comfort their daughter after the operation

“She recognizes that the cat has similar struggles as she does,” said Scarlette’s mom
