Francis, a three-week-old kitten, weighed just 113 g, as if he were a newborn. Something was amiss here, as the shelter workers understood.
It was about the size of a soup spoon.
The kitten was brought to the NOVA Cat Clinic. Ellen Carozza, a veterinary assistant, looked after the newborn, who required extra attention.
Francis’s head was noticeably bigger than the rest of his body. “His siblings weighed 280g or more, however, he weighed only 113g,” Ellen explains.
The fluffy boy experienced heart murmurs and a few hairs falls off, according to the initial checkup. Specialists examined the patient’s health further and performed two further tests to confirm the diagnosis.
Francis was unconcerned with his little stature. He ate well and meowed a lot when he wanted Ellen to give him arms. Its little, humming engine was working hard.
The kitten was prescribed bottle feeding 24 hours a day, seven days a week. He was soaking up the sun in Ellen’s arms when he wasn’t feeding. To ensure that he did not miss a meal, the wife took him to work with her. Because he wanted her complete attention, she carried the baby in her pocket.
Benny, Ellen’s cat, acted as the mini-temporary kitten’s yet responsible father. Benny dutifully licked Francis as he completed his meal, watched how the cub mastered the plate and was the first to try solid food.
Having tasted wet kitten food for the first time, our hero has eaten everything down to the last crumb.
A significant moment for a little miracle kitten.
“I consulted with a number of professionals. “Additional testing could not establish the diagnosis of hypothyroidism, but it may be linked to a growth hormone shortage,” Ellen explains.
“He has a number of health challenges, and we’re still working on them.” “He isn’t the first.”
Francis was the size of a three-week-old when he was six weeks old. He is, however, a true warrior.
“The following weigh-in revealed 342 grams… the most of it was the stomach,” Ellen says.
Francis has a strong voice. The baby is trying his best to look like a big boy.
NOVA Cat Clinic’s sister organization, The Chris Griffey Memorial Feline Foundation (CGMFF), gives kittens like Francis the care they need to survive and thrive.
A week ago, Ellen found the perfect match for the little tuxedo.
He’ll go home with one of Ellen’s family as soon as he’s ready.
Because Francis is growing, his attendants have already updated his bed.
The lovely cat with the rich mustache blossomed at the age of eight weeks.
He grew from a spoon-sized kitten to a dignified gentleman dressed in the most ridiculous tuxedo.
“We were able to save his life because of our patience, tenacity, and patient attention.” “Never give up, even in the most difficult conditions, because if you do, it’s all for naught, and no one will help,” Ellen writes.
Francis was a challenging case, but the veterinarians persevered.
Now is the time to have a peek at it!
