Melissa, the creator of Tiny but Mighty Kitten Rescue in Cornwall, Ontario, Canada, received a call about a kitten in need of immediate assistance earlier this month. In the freezing weather, a nice man took him up off the street.
“There was a cold-weather warning that evening,” Melissa adds, “so it’s a wonder the kitty was found in time.” “As soon as I got off work that evening, he was brought to me.”
She encouraged the finder to keep an eye out for the mother cat and the other kittens, as they might still be out in the cold.
The kitten arrived, and naturally, I didn’t inspire confidence in him (nor did people in general), from which it was clear that he was most likely born on the street. He was about five to six weeks old, weighed 600 g,” says Melissa.
“It took him two days to start trusting me. At the time, he felt it was relatively safe to explore the nursery and all his new toys.”
The youngster felt emancipated and engaged the purr-motor after thawing in connection to humans. “He purred with delight as his stomach was touched.”
Melissa was called by another animal rights activist, Barking Beauties Cat Rescue (in Ottawa), two days after he arrived, with surprising news regarding the cat.
“They said they might have my baby mom with three more kids,” says Melissa.
It turned out that a week before the kitten was found, Barking Beauties Cat Rescue volunteers were rescuing a mother cat with four kittens hiding under a porch in Cornwall. One of her kittens escaped, and no matter how hard they tried, they couldn’t find him.
“We kept looking for the baby even when it became evident that we weren’t going to find him,” Laura of Barking Beauties Cat Rescue explains.
They returned the cat family to their caretakers, but they did not abandon their search for the lost kitten. Days passed before they learned about a kitten that had been rescued from the cold and had a similar description to the one they had lost. “It was discovered under a parked automobile.”
“We established that my little ward was found literally two minutes from the spot where the rescuers rescued the mother cat with three kittens (of the same age) after several attempts to trace and contact the person who gave the kitten to me,” Melissa adds.
“This ultimately persuaded us that the kitten in my care is the kitten they were unable to apprehend.”
Everyone decided that the prodigal son should be reconciled with his family as soon as possible, while they remembered and accepted him correctly.
The next morning, a snowstorm hit, but Melissa managed to get the kitten to a meeting with Jackie, a volunteer from Barking Beauties Cat Rescue, who gently delivered the boy to his family for a new foster home by nightfall.
The kitten was named Pontiac in honor of Betty White’s beloved golden retriever. The baby stepped out of the carrier into the arms of the mother cat, Cleopatra, who began to wash him as if to say: “Welcome home.”
His brothers and sister (Mystique, Storm, and Nala) also came up to him to sniff and hug him.
“They recognized him right away, and he appeared to be overjoyed to be reunited with his family.” “It’s incredible how everything came together,” Melissa adds.
So, with the support of many people, Cleopatra the cat was able to take in all four of her offspring. They live contentedly in overexposure, far from any threats on the street.
