For months, the lovely tortoiseshell cat walked about Montreal, Canada alone.
Nobody gave a damn about the poor creature. Finally, one caring woman observed her rounder belly and recognized that this kitten needed to be transported to a secure location as soon as possible.
Cindy raced to meet the pregnant mother as soon as she sought to make contact with her. The cat had clearly interacted with people previously, and she craved care and attention.
Cindy took her to Chatons Orphelins Montréal (COM), a local animal care organization. “She was relieved to be cared for, so she readily let the woman take her in her arms and bring her to us,” COM’s Celine Krom said.
Melba was her name.
The friendly kitty was about a year old, and she was already on demolitions.
COM staff identified a new member of the family of one of the volunteers, Stephanie, so that she could calmly wait for the birth here and give birth in comfortable conditions.
Stephanie discovered Melba had gone into labor a few days later when she awoke.
“Melba was a bit jittery, meowing frequently and asking her foster mother to stay with her. Stephanie remained at her side to assist the ward in unwinding. Melba then gave birth to four children with the assistance and supervision of a lady,” Celine explains.
They all turned out to be boys: Alphonse, Edgar, Anatole, and Napoleon.
“Melba stayed in bed the entire day, nursing the infants.” “She is an incredible mother,” Celine admires.
The kittens are now two weeks old and doing well at the temporary owners’ home. The infants were already moving when their eyes opened.
“Melba is a sweetheart. She shows complete faith in her adoptive mother, allowing her to touch the kittens and accepting aid readily.
“Think about it: she was removed off the streets right before she gave birth,” Celine continues.
All four kittens are now healthy and fat. Mama Melba is ecstatic with her children!
