Bunny’s polished look, satisfied, well-fed snout, and well-groomed coat are now admired by those who see her, when over a year ago no one dared to approach her.
No one wanted to take in and treat an almost hairless 5-week-old cat that was found on the street and brought to a city shelter in Las Vegas. The kitten had no more than a week to live before being killed.
However, he struck gold when he was noticed by Nikki Martinez, a private cat rescuer who had been to the shelter to check on the new arrivals. She was instantly drawn to a skinny, half-bald kitten sitting in a cage, which meowed in response to her gaze. “Save me, I’m in trouble,” he appeared to say.
Nikki decided to give the kitten a second chance. She named him Bunny and took him to the vet, where it turned out that the baby had a fungal infection – ringworm, and therefore she went bald.
The doctor prescribed antifungal pills for the kitten, but after a few days, it became clear that for some reason they did not work.
Furthermore, the kitten’s health deteriorated as a result of them, and Nikki opted to save the cat by other methods for the time being. First and foremost, the kitten’s weight had to be stabilized because he was quite underweight.
“She was so frail in the beginning that my husband had to keep an eye on her and report to me if she was still alive,” Nikki Martinez explains. “Moreover, she had a low appetite and ate nearly nothing, so we had to give her liquid nutritional supplements by syringe initially.” She only started eating wet food after that.”
For Bunny, every day was a challenge. The kitten showed its strength by fighting for its life.
Two months later, Bunny gained almost a kilogram, the fungus was defeated and her hair slowly began to grow.
Nikki had a difficult day of separation once Bunny had fully recovered. A caring family discovered the kitten and proceeded to provide her with medicine. Bunny began to transform into a stunning feline with very silky fluffy fur.
She is now an adult powerful cat that is very cuddly but also has a strong personality. Nikki is always proud of herself and her work.
