Some individuals opt to quit their jobs, sell or rent their homes, pack their belongings, and start on a vacation across the world with their spouses, children, and pets like one British couple did when they decided to visit the stunning landscapes of North America.
They’ve been on the road for two years, but what makes this story truly unique is a gorgeous kitty they rescued along the route. They can’t bear the thought of her life without her darling Aimee, and have decided to spend a year in Mexico to avoid leaving her.
Lee Hodges and Willow Rolfe are a couple of teachers who began their adventure around North America in their rebuilt VW truck in August 2019.
They had been planning the journey for some years, and in 2015 they purchased a beat-up vehicle with the intention of restoring it.
Willow was a motor vehicle teacher at a mechanic school at the time, and she spent two years repairing and rebuilding the truck.
According to Bored Panda, when traveling through Washington DC, they decided to adopt a small cat they spotted on the streets and who quickly became a member of their family.
They felt the need to rescue a homeless animal, as they have two cats waiting for them at home, which they adore, so they took Aimee in, and she has been traveling with them ever since.
The pair even joke that their beloved Aimee travels better than most people; her life changed completely.
The kitten has also been taught to walk on a leash so that she may join her parents on their outside activities.
After a lengthy journey throughout the United States, the couple decided to take their kitty to Mexico in quest of new adventures.
Unfortunately, an accident occurred and Aimee was attacked by a pack of dogs, leaving her with a broken leg. But despite this, her trio’s wanderlust did not abate and they waited for her kitten to stand up and continued on.
The couple wanted to travel to the UK before the epidemic began, but they didn’t want to leave Aimee behind.
The epidemic immobilized Mexico, and many of its tourist sites were forced to close in order to comply with the government’s mandated isolation. As a result, the three explorers have had to deal with angry locals and health officials as they go from one location to another.
The family is keen to cross the Atlantic, but their beloved VW vehicle suddenly broke down, leaving them stuck in Mexico.
They’ve been there since Aimee was injured, and their homecoming has been delayed for a year owing to quarantine. They must now repair the vehicle and go to the United States, where they intend to board a boat from one of the seaports.
Willow ordered a replacement engine and has been dealing with other technical challenges while waiting for further parts to arrive.
But currently, one of the most difficult issues is a lack of time and permissions, since her humanitarian visa expires in February and the gates reopen on January 21.
They want to take advantage of the initial plan to go to the United States, so they’re simply waiting for their truck to start.
Whatever they have to wait for, Aimee will accompany them home and they will continue their travels.
