Iris is a cute British Shorthair cat that couldn’t lose weight despite following a rigorous low-fat, low-calorie diet. As a result, the kitten’s mother, Sheena Wilson, has asked her neighbors to stop feeding her.
Desperate, Sheena asked her neighbors in Exmouth, UK, not to feed her eight-year-old, 7.5-kilogram cat on a community Facebook group.
Sheena explained to DevonLive:
“Iris is a large girl, and she’s gigantic. Since I began writing about her on Facebook, she has amassed a sizable following. During the last lockdown, I discovered that she was being fed by someone else because she barely ate her own food and was gaining weight.”
Woman begs her neighbors to stop feeding her kitten
Sheena is quite worried about the health of her pet, she states that, unlike her other cats, Iris suffers from stress if she does not leave the house. Although she is so big, she has a hard time getting out the cat door.
The feline’s family wishes to have her company for many more years and they are focused on her losing weight and being a healthy kitten.
Iris’ mother describes her as spoiled, claiming that she is the only one of her cats that sleeps in the bed and refuses to let the others try. Her weight is a source of worry since she has a heart issue and maybe diabetes.
Iris is a crafty cat who, despite the fact that she no longer uses the cat door, manages to get through. She’s now resorted to pounding on the door to gain her family’s attention whenever she wants to enter or exit her home.
Sheena continued,
“She’s been denying she’s on a diet for a long time and still asks for sweets. Only her head fits through the flap of the door, which we have secured, so it’s becoming an issue for her. As a result, she can only use it to play hide and seek because she couldn’t fit the rest of herself in it. Iris has now resorted to coming and going by knocking on the door.”
Sheena says that her cat need surgery, but that she must first reduce weight, as advised by the veterinarian. A typical cat weighs approximately 3.5 kilos, although males of this species are somewhat larger, weighing up to 5 kilograms.
