Devi Larsen, from Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, recently had an unusual encounter. Devi has a cat named Loki who enjoys being outside, and one day she heard a commotion outside. When she walked outside, she discovered a clone of her cat and Loki staring at each other, their eyes filled with hatred.
Chaos erupted as Devi tried to decide what to do.
“I heard them shouting at each other so I raced upstairs to discover two of the same cat staring each other down,” Devi told Bored Panda in a condensed version of the event. It was complete confusion since I had no idea which one belonged to me.
In retrospect, I should have just doused them with water to stop it, but I was in the moment and did the best I could! It all went sour after I discovered out who was who. Also, I forgot that when I eventually separated them, I was bringing fatness Loki into my house, and he whacked my dog, who was merely checking on him.”
Thankfully, Loki was unharmed; however, Devi was unable to check on the other cat since it fled as swiftly as it could.
Devi’s whole story may be seen here on Reddit: “I made a mistake today by letting my cat outside.” First, a little backstory about my chubby feline. He’s an ‘indoor’ cat that strives to go outside whenever he has the chance.
I didn’t want him to be an outside cat, but we came to an agreement, and he now lives outside. I used to let him on a long leash with an easy break collar, but he’s now found out that he’s big enough to jump off anything and it’ll break easily. I then switched to a harness, which he quickly discovered he could get out of by just backing up.
“Anyway, I figured I’d be nice and let him out for a bit while I was working downstairs. There I am on the phone with a customer who won’t stop asking questions and I begin to hear screams of pure death coming from my yard.
I’m trying to get rid of my customer so I can get to my cat and figure out what unholy hell he got himself into. My customer keeps saying some random stuff that he should have said way earlier as it wasn’t even relevant anymore. So I’m like ‘yep, ok, yep’ trying to get rid of him and also nervous he can hear the horror show in the background.”
“Finally, I get off the line and sprint upstairs, believing my cat had crossed the fence and was now dangling from the line (I always keep it shorter than the distance to the fence, but assumed he’d frick me over again).”
“I instantly realize I was entirely mistaken, and I suspect I’m either hallucinating or there’s another whale of a cat with the same appearance as mine.”
I take a fast photo in case this cat runs away, and I’ll put it online to attempt to track down his owner.
They’re both bloated and puffy as if there’s no tomorrow. I’m not sure who’s who. Because my cat is wearing his leash, I believed I’d be able to tell them differently. Nope. He’s managed to Houdini his way out of the harness once again, so I now have two heathens howling at each other, and I have no idea which one is mine.”
“I eventually see the other cat is wearing a black harness, so I take it and proceed to restrain my cat.” He propels himself faster than this jiggly beast has ever moved in his life before I can react. He slams into the other cat, and they slap together like peanut butter and jelly.”
“I easily separate them, and I pick up my cat while holding the other one in a leash so I can inspect for wounds when I bring my inside.” That was a huge blunder. This cat jumps up onto my leg and scratches my hand. Meanwhile, my cat is attempting to destroy the other cat while simultaneously attacking me.”
“I get my cat inside and the other blubbering beast is now trying to jump the fence. But he’s so fast that he jumps and is literally sliding down the fence in slow-mo like a cartoon character. I’m trying to catch him but he’s surprisingly fast for a Snorlax. I go back inside to grab treats to entice him but he’s gone and I only had a 15-minute break at work.”
“I wanted to check on him to make sure he was okay, but I didn’t have time to do so.” I’ve put some food out for him in the hopes that he’ll return. I imagine he’s traumatized, but a man of his stature has to keep his calories up.”
“My hand is a bit swelled now, and it aches to move.”
Many individuals expressed worry for her hand and recommended the owner to seek medical attention.
“Just got back from physicians, received tetanus shot and some meds, thank you, everyone!” she wrote later regarding her wound.
