Dan and his wife Hannah contacted Chesapeake Cats and Dogs, a Maryland-based animal rescue organization. They inquired whether any of the volunteers had a cat in their care that was in desperate need of a home.
A creature like this has been discovered. Maryland rescuers turned up a nine-year-old cat in bad health to North Carolina colleagues at Dan and Hannah’s request. Dan recounts, “I took a break from work after lunch and drove an hour to the shelter.”
Our fiery-haired hero turned out to be a bashful young man. “Obviously, that hasn’t been done in a long time.” As the volunteers placed him in the cat carrier for me, he emitted a protesting meow that sounded like a protesting ‘no-no.’”
Dan talked to Ginger to help her relax.
The couple made a cat suite out of their guest room. They cleaned the cat, and he didn’t even show any displeasure. After that, they gave him a quiet painkiller, and he started purring and didn’t stop for a long time.
“We didn’t leave him for the first few hours: we bathed, then stroked.” He was so calm that he even let his fur coat’s tangled threads be combed.”
Following all of these steps, the cat seized his man with both paws, as if he wouldn’t let go for anything in the world. He was given the name Haggs, which comes from the English word “hug” – “hug.” “I recognized he was really loving even in the first minutes of our encounter, despite his timidity,” the guy recalls.
Haggs had a lot of health issues before he was adopted, but things started to get better after that.
“He soon had all of his diseased, untreated teeth extracted, and he took it in stride. He still has a few chronic ailments, but he interacts with other cats, eats well, and appears to be content.”
Haggs was pain-free for the first time in a long time, and his thoughts are now entirely focused on the master’s caress.
Huggs’ parents purchased a baby carrier to keep him as near and warm as possible.
“When I go home from work at night, he physically greets me at the entrance, places his paws on my shoulders, and demands to be carried,” Dan explains.
“So we take a walk around the house with him, and he purrs like crazy and brushes against my chin. Haggs sleeps in our bed and purrs directly into my and Hannah’s ears to get us up in the morning.”
Since the adoption, several months have passed. Ginger, who has always been affectionate, is now even more joyful than before.
“His flea bites and other flea indications have vanished, he gets along swimmingly with our feline companions, and he’s in high spirits.”
The couple can only guess what kind of life the cat had before that fateful meeting at the shelter. But they know for sure that Haggs will spend the rest of his days in a house full of love.
