Animal rights advocates at the Critteraid Animal Sanctuary in British Columbia, Canada, were notified in late April about kittens trapped in the insulation of a farm outbuilding. Melissa, a volunteer, got there right away.
She was able to burst through the thick outer plastic and reach the kittens trapped within the heat-insulating layer. Two of the three kittens were still alive, but their mother cat had vanished.
Despite her best efforts, the male kitten succumbed to pneumonia, leaving Maisie the only survivor. She did not give up, fighting for life with all her might.
The baby turned out to be a great eater and never left behind even a drop of food. Her incredible determination gave her adoptive parents hope that she would survive no matter what.
She held on for a few more weeks, continuing to eat as if she were not herself. “Mighty appetite and the strongest spirit of a warrior,” says Danika about the kitten.
Baby Macy loves food and her bottles – she has a whole collection of them.
She started learning to feed herself when she was 5 weeks old. She dove into the wet food with her face first and then scraped underneath her.
The guardians soon worked out her amusing and appealing eating technique.
Macy needs to be drenched with food when she eats. She is so absorbed in this procedure that she is not averse to smearing herself up to her ears with something delicious.
“For starters, she likes to float around on her stomach, head down, on a plate. “She eats only after passing wet food between her fingers and spreading it on all surfaces,” Danika explains.
“I’ve tried a lot of different cat saucers and containers to minimize confusion, but she’s only happy when I let her swim in the food.” We’re happy as long as she’s happy.”
Knowing that she would benefit from the company of feline friends, they brought her together with several older kittens, who immediately took patronage over her.
Maisie needs to be cleaned up after she eats, but it makes her happy, content, and full.
“Miss Dirty Maisie still has a few more plates to swim in before she’s spayed and adopted,” says the narrator.
The tenacious adolescent passes through milestones of maturation after milestone, never failing to inspire others with her tenacity.
