When their family could no longer care for them, seven-year-old Jack and ten-year-old OJ, two inseparable ginger cats, were surrendered to Anne Arundel County Animal Care and Control (AACAC in Millersville, Maryland). They were terrified and perplexed when they arrived to the refuge. They gathered close together, attempting to make sense of the strange scenario.
The staff saw how close the brothers were right away. They were placed in a modest cat room with plenty of space for two cats to explore freely.
When one of the seals started to loosen up, the other instantly followed suit. The striped boys were inseparable; they stayed close together and rarely looked at one other. The presence of a valued being created in me a sense of security.
hands together. OJ was sitting in the turret, but he wanted to be stroked as well, so he leaned in and trampled my arm with his paws. “What a lovely pair,” the helper exclaims.
Every visitor to their room was greeted warmly by the red-haired brothers, who instantly began to seek attention and love. No one was able to break free from themselves without a protracted hugging session.
They prayed that someone would come through that door and take them home with him every day.
Friends of Anne Arundel County Animal Care and Control (FAACAC), a non-profit organization of animal rescue volunteers, paid for expensive dental procedures that Jack and OJ badly needed. This not only improved the brothers’ well-being but also significantly improved their quality of life.
The shelter workers were determined to put the cats in the same good hands, knowing that the brothers meant a lot to each other. And so, ten days ago, our heroes were visited by the one whom they had been waiting for so long.
One mother learned about the brothers through the shelter’s social media website, and she and her family were enthralled. They reached out to volunteers to set up a meeting and introduction.
They struck it off right away when they met. OJ raced right into the middle of the embraces, while Jack approached and patiently awaited his time. The brothers were considerably more loving than normal, as though reaffirming their desire to visit these people’s houses and join their families.
Jack and OJ’s dream came true after weeks of waiting! They left the orphanage on that day and began a new chapter in their lives together.
“Every moment of their departure was wonderful, it was worth seeing,” FAACAC volunteers say. “A couple of mushrooms remain in our hearts, leaving for New York to a new mistress.”
It was not an easy task to restore the health of the cats and find the permanent home they deserve.
