A survival opportunity was offered to a kitten with a sweet face and a powerful will to live. He is determined to succeed and live a life that is complete. Muppet the kitten was born with hydrocephalus and deformities on his face (including a cleft palate, a cleft lip). He and anyone who would take a chance on him required specialized treatment. He showed remarkable determination from the outset, despite being a little different.
Audrey, a Murphy’s Safe Haven fosterer (an animal shelter in Edinburgh, Texas), saw the little tuxedo plea and immediately volunteered to assist. Audrey shared story “Kittens like him can live long healthy lives if they are with the correct person that will give them a chance,”
She heard a powerful, loud meow in the background while she was on the phone with another volunteer who was picking up the kitten. “I couldn’t believe it when she said it was Muppet meowing.”
They discovered just how amazing and resilient he was within hours after the kitten came to the rescue. Audrey told us, “He had such a will to live and wasn’t letting anything get past him,”
In order to stop aspiration, Muppet has to be fed safely through a feeding tube every two hours because of his cleft palate. He lives in a cozy incubator that controls the temperature of his body and has a handy supply of oxygen to help improve his lungs and ease his breathing.
The tuxedo boy is tiny, but he has a powerful voice. He’s never afraid to tell his people what he wants, and he has a voracious appetite and determination to grow strong and tall.
“Muppet knows when it’s feeding time. He will wake up and stay at the front of the incubator waiting for me to feed him. And if I’m a few minutes late, he will start screaming,” Audrey shared with us.
The little wonder kitten takes steps every day and eats like a champ. With all the love and support from his people, and happy with his full belly after every meal, he seems so content.
Muppet has no eyes, but she has amazing intuition and an inspiring spirit of fighting. His other senses will learn as he grows and help him navigate and do things just like any other cat.
His every milestone is celebrated by his foster family. They are shocked at his sheer will to live and how far in only a couple of days he has come.
He is full of life despite his appearance. He’ll scream his head off before he gets what he wants. Kitties with special needs deserve a chance, too,”Despite his appearance, he is full of life. He will scream his head off till he gets what he wants. Special needs kitties deserve a chance too,”
Yesterday, the little warrior kitten just turned a week old. He put on weight, and in his legs he developed muscles and strength.
Muppet works to perfect his balance and even tries a little bit to crawl and walk around. The tuxedo boy never fails to be surprised at what he can do for his people.
Audrey shared with us, “He’s doing so well. We’ve started him on medication for his hydrocephalus and so far it’s helping,”
